New Delhi, April 5 (LatestNewsX.com): Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two-time IPL champions, have secured the services of the English opener, Jason Roy, for INR 2.8 crore for the upcoming IPL 2023 season.
Roy had set his base price at INR 1.5 crore, making it a lucrative deal for the experienced batsman. This signing comes after KKR lost two of their key players for the ongoing season, with regular skipper Shreyas Iyer ruled out due to a back surgery and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan opting out.
Jason Roy’s IPL Career So Far
Roy, who has earlier played for four IPL teams, including KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, brings a wealth of experience to the KKR squad. He had last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 season, where he scored 150 runs in five games, including a half-century. With his dynamic stroke-play and aggressive batting style, Roy is expected to add depth to the KKR batting lineup.
International T20 Record
In addition to his IPL exploits, Roy is a seasoned campaigner in international T20 cricket. He has played 64 T20Is for England, scoring 1522 runs at a strike-rate of 137.61 with eight fifties.
His ability to take on the bowlers from the outset and provide his team with a flying start has been instrumental in England’s T20 success over the years.
KKR’s acquisition of Jason Roy is a shrewd move that bolsters their batting department for IPL 2023. With the English opener’s form and experience in the shortest format of the game, KKR will be hoping to make a strong comeback in the tournament after a disappointing campaign in 2021.
